The iKAT is a small devise (about the size of a spark plug) that is fitted between the coil and spark plug cap; it electronically alters the shape and speed of the pulse coming from the coil thus producing a longer and stronger spark. Effectively this means that a much more complete burned is achieved on every combustion cycle, thus little or no unburned gases (waste gases) are exiting into the exhaust system. The iKAT works on all internal gas spark combustion motors including direct coil applications.
The iKAT is not a capacitor. A capacitor produces an advanced much hotter spark. The iKAT spark starts at the exact same time, but it lasts longer so there is no advancement in the ignition timing, and no increase in spart temperature. This is achieved by altering the electrical pulse from the coil before it reaches the spark plug.
The iKAT is a real world device; it works best out at the track or on the trail where conditions are constantly changing. Fitting an iKAT is very simple and requires no cutting of wires at all. An iKAT can be fitted to, or removed from any application quickly and easily.
When an iKAT is fitted the rider can instantly feel a difference in the performance of the bike. The best way to describe it is that the bike feels like it is perfectly jetted running on race fuel. Throttle response is improved; cracking it open brings a smile to your face. You will also see reduced engine operating temperature and a reduction in the amount of fuel used.
The iKAT is for every body. It is fully water, heat, cold resistant as long as your engine keeps running, the iKAT will keep sparking.
The M02010 and M02020 are exactly the same thing except the M02010 has a screw fitting on the end and the M02020 has a crimp fitting. Both work inline between the coil and spark plug cap. Simply unscrew the spark plug cap from the plug lead, and then screw (or crimp) the iKAT to the lead from the coil. The original spark plug capis then screwed onto the lead end of the iKAT.
The M02015 iKAT presses directly onto the spark plug, and is used where the OEM coil is a direct plug type, often referred to as a coil stick, these type of coils are only used on some modern four strokes.
Basic Applications:
Single Cylinder
Basically there are only two types of applications for all single cylinder engines.
1) A coil mounted to the frame with a lead to a plug cap requires a M02010 iKAT
2) A coil that presses directly onto the spark plug requires a M02015 iKAT
Twin Cylinder
There are a number of combinations used on twin cylinders. Again if you're not sure what you have please contact us.
1) A single coil with two leads coming out of it. This is called a wasted spark ignition and only requires one M02010 or M02020 iKAT in the conventional or positive lead. This is common in twin cylinder 2 strokes or older 4 strokes.
2) Two seperate coils mounted to the frame with leads to plug caps. This set up requires 2 M02010 or M02020 iKATs.
3) Two stick type coils. This requires 2 M02015 iKATs
Three Cylinder
For the most part all three cylinder applications have three separate coils. Unless it is an older application with a points system on it.
1) Three coils mounted to the frame with leads to plug caps. This requires 3 M02010 or M02020 iKATs.
2) Three stick type coils. This requires 3 M02015 iKATs.
3) Points of distributor ignition systems. Usually in this type of ignition system there is a coil with a lead to the distributor. Only 1 M02010 or M02020 iKAT is required in the lead between the coil and the distributor.
Four Cylinder
There are many combinations for four cylinder applications.
1) Two coils with two leads coming out of each coil. This requires 2 M02010 or M02020 iKATs, one per coil. The iKAT goes in the conventional or positive lead in each coil.
2) Four coils mounted to the frame with leads to plug caps. This requires 4 M02010 or M02020 iKATs. One iKAT in each lead.
3) Four stick type coils. This requires 4 M02015 iKATs.
4) Points or distributor ignition systems. Usually in this type of ignition system there is a coil with a lead to the distributor. Only 1 M02010 or M02020 iKAT is required in the lead between the coil and the disctributor.
